Subject: Science
Topic: Life Cycle of a Frog

Questions:

1. Find the pictures of the life cycle and save them to the desktop.
2. List the steps in a frog life cycle.
3. Produce a report in MS_Word, including pictures that have been saved.

Lesson Objectives:

As a whole: Using the Internet as a tool for pupils to produce a report.

1. Pupils to be able to use and utilize search engines.
2. Pupils to be able to save images from websites.
3. Pupils to be able to insert images in MS_Word.



Year 3
Subject: ICT
Topic: Getting Started with MS_Word.

Description: Pupils learn or review how to open and create file, format text, change font and point size.

Lesson Objectives:

1. Pupils to be familiarized with a word processing package.
2. Pupils to learn basic features of MS_Word (Typing and Formatting)
3. Pupils learn how to italize, bold, underline and change the point size.
4. Pupils to learn letter and punctuation placement on the keyboard.
5. Pupils to learn that only one space is needed between each word and two spaces needed between each sentence.
5. Review and learn how to start and quit the application.

Topic: Instant Messaging using I-Chat on Macbook
Year: 3
Week: 7
Day: Monday
Date: 16th February 2009
Period: 1 (30 minutes)


Lesson Objectives:

1. For pupils to learn about e-communication.
2. For pupils to be able to analyse or deduce identities.



1. Teacher prepares Macbook and group pupils in pairs or threes.

2. Pupils log in to the student account.

3. Pupils point to the dock and click on I-Chat.

4. Teacher gives pupils a set of introductory questions for the pupils to ask one another via I-Chat. Answers to the questions are to be written down on a piece of paper each pupil. Pupils are to investigate whom they are chatting with.


Questions:

1. Hello, how are you today?
2. Are you a boy or a girl?
3. What colour is your pencil case?
4. What is your favourite food?
5. What is your father's name?


Plan B (Should there be problems with the Macbooks and Wireless Connection)

1. Number the diskettes backwards from the pupils' registration.
2. Distribute the diskettes.
3. Pupils retrieve the file with questions for them to answer and save the file.
4. Give the pupils time to answer the questions and ask them to save the files.
5. Collect diskettes and jumble them up.
6. Teacher distributes the diskettes randomly.
7. Pupils retrieve the files and try to guess the diskette that they have belongs to who.

1st Lesson of TP 2009

I was given the finalized timetable today as it kept changing repeatedly. I started to teach this morning.

I'm given 3 periods of ICT lessons for Mondays.

Year 4A - 7.30am to 8.00am
Year 3A - 8.30am to 9.00am
Year 4B - 9.30am to 10.00am

I decided to teach simple lessons since today was the first day of my teaching. For the Year 4 pupils, I asked them to create Chinese New Year greeting cards. Year 4B was ahead of Year 4A.

For Year 3A, I asked them to draw and color their Computers, tables, and chairs. Surprisingly, Year3A found this very difficult as they could not even work with the Mouse properly. I finally was informed that Year3A is the least achieving pupils as the school has begun the streaming of pupils into different classes in accordance to their capabilities.

Overall, the lessons were alright but a little bit slow. Apparently, majority of the pupils here have forgotten how to work with the computers after the long break as they do not own computers at home so there were no follow up at all. The other frustrating thing was, there are only 8 PCs working in the computer lab. So the pupils had to share even up to 5 pupils per PC. It severely affected their learning and my teaching as well.

I've informed the headmaster about the problem and I was told to call the ICT department in MOE Berakas for this matter.

TOPIC
Animals

CONTENT:
1) Animals Classification

2) Animals Habitat

OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the pupils will be able to:

1. Demonstrate knowledge of the characteristics of the most common animal groups.

2. Identify animals within a specific animal group.

3. Distinguish between the six most common groups of animals.

4. Associate animals with their respective homes.

PRESENTATIONS:
Induction (5 minutes)
- Teacher invites pupils to come into the computer lab and tells them to sit on the floor.

- Teacher recaps previous lesson on animals and animals’ classification.

Lesson Development (10 minutes)
1] Teacher tells pupils to take out a piece of paper and write down 3 of their favourite animals, listing the classification, and where the animals live.

2] Teacher announces that this week they will do very interesting and fun activities.

Reinforcement (40 minutes)
3] Teacher tells pupils to stand up, pair up and walk quietly to their seats (as assigned since the first week)

4] Teacher explains and displays the virtual activities that the pupils are about to do and complete.

5] Teacher then tells pupils to start doing the activities prepared as teacher walks around to see if pupils need more assistance.

Virtual Activities:

a] Name Animals one by one.
b] Group animals based on their habitat.
c] Knock, knock. Who lives here? (Hear the sound and who lives inside?)
d) Draw a line to match animals and their homes

The pupils are to complete the virtual exercises in pairs.

Closure (5 minutes)
Recap the lesson by asking the pupils to answer oral questions.
